Keeping the Right Perspective

Is the lens you are looking through serving your highest good?

It’s easy to get focused on all the things going wrong in life.

For example, what we don’t have in our life, but we want, and the thorny obstacles we are confronted with on the daily.

Did you know that we have 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts a day and it’s human nature to live in a headspace of ‘default thinking?’

Yes, AND the negative pieces of life that abrasively rub us raw and the thoughts that run rampid between our ears need to be calmed down at the very least.

It’s our job to overcome this messy conflict that most humans don’t like and retrain our brains and our mindset to be in a space of…

open mind,

open heart,

and turn the dial down on those negative haunting thoughts,

while turning the dial up on what we are grateful for.

If we are not consciously awake to what’s happening in the moment, we can easily lose our sight of all the wondrous treasures right in front of us.

We can get so stressed out and busy

we forget to pause and take a moment to reflect on our blessings.

Our life can feel mundane and routine to the point of doing the same tasks, going to the same places and coming home only to watch TV, go to bed and do the same thing over again the next day.

All because we forget to live.

We forget to stop long enough to see what is right in front of us.

The beautiful flowering plants in the corner of the office, the child and mother walking hand in hand with smiles on their faces, the amazing aroma coming from a pop up outside our window, the soft green grass where we can take our shoes off for five minutes and experience the effect of grounding our bodies.

Instead of living a life of routine, what if you did something different? #dsd

We can shake up our day and #dsd with a simple practice of gratitude ~ this is a fresh way to begin each day with a new perspective on life.

When I wake up in the morning, I’m intentional about noticing my surroundings, what makes me smile and feel good. I wander out to my porch deck in my bare feet to feel the cold air, breathe in greatness and love for the day and pinch myself because I have an amazing view of the foothills to be grateful for.

I notice what lights me up and immediately, I can become grateful for that thing. A warm shower, a comfortable bed, and a roof over my head.

One of my early morning habits is journaling and on those pages I write three things I am grateful for. Getting yourself a gratitude journal is a simple but profound act to feel alive, elevate your vibration and to start the day off feeling relaxed and at ease. (of course you have to write in it)

You can write whatever you want in your ‘book of life’ and not worry that anyone else will read it.

Even writing down or speaking out loud the very simple things that bring you joy like your family, a warm cup of tea, or your loving partner is a great way to begin your gratitude practice.

For even more benefit, challenge yourself to get really specific about what you are grateful for. Go deep.

What are those big breakthroughs you’ve had recently that elevated you in some magical way? That opened doors you didn’t even know were there!

What about those hugs, smiles and helping hands that got you through some tough times?

Always remember to ‘look back’ and give thanks for how far you’ve come.

At the same time, I remind myself to not dwell on the past as to not interfere with my future. I’m not going in that direction ~ I’m moving forward.

Good things are always coming our way, and we will see them if we keep our eyes wide open.

Here’s the key. If we are constantly complaining about how things are,

or

what we don’t have,

the universe will give you MORE of that…

Instead, turn your thoughts over to this mantra

“If I complain, I get more of the same.

When I praise, life will be raised!’

Our perspective on life is what frames our reality. Whether we have a growth mindset (open to change) or a fixed mindset (doing life the same ole way, believing that things will never change) makes all the difference in what comes your way.

One exercise that can help shift the way you see things is to write down twelve things you are grateful for ~ these can be where you are ‘winning in life,’ or whatever comes to mind.

Try to focus on your heart when reflecting and get out of your head. To do this you can put one hand over your heart and breathe in and out for a count of 4, pause, exhale for 7. Do this three times and settle in.

For what is most precious comes from the heart.

This simple exercise elevates ‘happy hormones’ in our bodies, leaving us with a sense of hope, happiness and well being.

AND, this state of being in gratitude and love is also the highest vibration there is.

If you struggle with staying encouraged, make this list and include all the things God’s blessed you with.

If you have great health, write it down.

I’m healthy.

I’m strong.

I’m a divine soul.

I have a job.

I have a home.

I have a pet.

If you can see it, and feel it, write it down.

It’s only a matter of time where you’ll experience MORE favor in your life in amazing ways.

Get your mind going in the right direction and your life will follow your thoughts.

It is important to realize that every day is a gift. We’re not always going to be here, so why not live each day in the now, and to the absolute fullest?

Feel your feelings.

Feel your Joy.

Feel the blessings in your relationships.

AND, Keep counting your blessings until you run out of ink…

Although we experience obstacles, and challenges in our life,

our attitude is the ONE thing we have control over.

So leave the complaining behind and embrace a fresh perspective on life every morning when you awake.

When you change your perspective and believe that life is for you, not against you, everything gets better.

When you understand that you ‘get to’ instead of ‘have to’

go to work,

pick up the kids,

wash the dishes,

hold your lover,

go grocery shopping,

you are standing in your power, and making choices that light you up!

Going forward, look for twelve hugs a day, (even if they are from your furry animals)

be thankful for the simple things,

and live this day as if there is no tomorrow.

Call your loved ones, make amends, dance in a field of grass or in your kitchen.

Take a walk in nature, meditate on God’s goodness and at the end of the day

count your blessings, one by one.

All the love, Shelley
