The Dirty Dozen: Why This Food List Is SO Important

I've grown up with a strong influence on health and nutrition for over 4 decades.

Looking back now I see the exceptional and extraordinary benefits that come with living a healthy lifestyle and making choices for longevity versus just for the moment.

Long ago when I learned about pesticides and herbicides I decided that they would not be part of my life and I would do everything I could to keep them far away from my high and healthy standard of living for my family and me.

So maybe you're asking yourself

“why would I want to choose organic foods low in pesticide residue”?

Here is just one example cited from a French study published in the JAMA internal medicine that found among nearly 70,000 participants those with the highest frequency of organic food consumption had 25% fewer cancers than individuals who did not eat organic food.

And in 2018 data from the Harvard University Study found a surprising association among the study participants between the consumption of foods that were high in pesticide residues and fertility issues.

The biggest shock for me was to learn about the highly popular green called Kale. Over half of the samples were tainted with possible cancer-causing chemicals. It’s surprisingly shocking that this “healthy” green is the most contaminated amongst the fruits and vegetables.

Whether it’s you or your significant other who does the grocery shopping, if you do choose to integrate these lists, you too can avoid toxic overload from pesticides and herbicides in your life, beginning with the foods that you eat. (And there’s more to this as well. It’s not just our foods where these chemicals are lurking…stay tuned on how to avoid them in your daily routine as well)

I began with the Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen list as a guideline and since then have learned additional principles and discovered resources to live fully alive with vitality, joy, and happiness. I’ll share these with you in future posts this month.

PS Washing your fruits and vegetables is very important, no matter how clean they may seem.

The first thing I do when I get them home is toss the plastic that they are wrapped in.

Then, I wash what I am going to use in “Basic H “ which is a safe, organic product that helps remove pesticides from produce.

After washing them, I wrap up my lettuce and produce in paper towels and place them in the vegetable drawers to keep fresh.

TIP: Celery keeps best in aluminum foil-no more limp celery!
